Your folders, your critters, your PC. FolderCritters runs locally without an account, tracking, advertising, or analytics.
Everything stays on your PC.
FolderCritters does not upload your folders, imported artwork, or app records. Image conversion happens on your PC. Your folder contents are never sent to the studio.
Your files stay yours.
FolderCritters never reads the files inside your folders. It changes the small Windows settings file used to give a folder its icon. Your documents, photos, and projects are never moved, renamed, or opened.
Local records and safety copies.
The app keeps local settings and records of icon changes so it can restore folders and recover critters through Sync. Changes are recorded before they happen and protected with rolling safety copies.
Cloud-synced folders.
If your Desktop is synced by OneDrive or a similar service, that service may sync folder icon settings under its own settings. FolderCritters does not connect to or upload to those services. The critter pictures stay on the PC where you added them.
Reports are your choice.
If something goes wrong, you decide whether to send a report. It opens in your own email app so you can read it before sending. The generated report contains no file names, folder names, or personal details. Information you add yourself is shared only if you choose to send it.
Uninstalling is your choice, too.
Before removing the app, use FolderCritters’ uninstall option in Settings. You can restore folders to their previous appearance or leave the critters in place.
Updates and external links.
In the Microsoft Store version, automatic updates are on by default and can be turned off in setup or Settings. FolderCritters asks Microsoft Store for updates about once a day; Check for updates does the same on demand. Microsoft Store handles downloads and installation under its own privacy practices. Standalone copies have no update channel. Links open in your browser only when you select them. This website has a separate privacy notice.
